MoI in primary must be in child’s mother tongue: GSRP

Making its stand clear on offshore casinos, the Goa Su-Raj Party (GSRP) on Saturday said that casinos should be shifted out of Mandovi River. It also supported the people of Chapora, who are apprehensive that government was planning to shift the casinos in the Chapora River.
“GSRP wants to re-locate floating casinos to off shore limits which is approximately 1 to1.5 miles off the sea coast of Goa,” said Floriano Lobo, General Secretary and spokesman of the party.
Lobo was addressing the media in the party office in Mapusa on Saturday along with the President of the party, Mathias Vaz and executive members of the party. Some of the GSRP candidates were also present.
He further said that GSRP was supporting the Tarchem Khazan Tenants Association of Siolim against the illegal development of the Chapora river bank, which is done with the intention of bringing casinos in the river.
“Goa's river waters are rendered unsafe and polluted through the indiscriminate discharge of sewage into the waters by floating casinos. We are yet to know what safety measures the government has taken in order to control the discharge of raw sewaqe in the river waters,” the GSRP general secretary said.
According to Lobo, MOI in primary schools must be in the child’s mother tongue.
“GSRP will disassociate the MOI from the government grants. Central and State government grants to primary schools shall be on merits,” he said.
The GSRP said that Goa's freedom movement was slighted through the entry of fake freedom fighters into the rank and file, who benefit through pensions paid from the hard earned money of the tax-payers.
“GSRP shall want to cull the list of Goa's so-called freedom fighters of fakes. Their pensions revoked retrospectively and those authentic freedom fighters who have certified the fakes shall be suspended,” Lobo said.
The GSRP general secretary also said that Goans should be allowed to have dual citizenship and that it was their birth right.
“Most Goans are not interested in having Portuguese Passports, even if it is their birth right. Those opting for Portuguese passports is not because they do not love their motherland Goa, but because of economic reasons. It is very difficult for a Goan to make do without appropriate job opportunities,” he said.
The party further said that BJP which came to power on the slogan of “Zero tolerance to corruption” has promoted itself to 100 per cent tolerance to corruption.
“GSRP demands that the dishonest brother-in-law of the Chief Minister should be terminated with immediate effect to let the law of the land prevail,” Lobo said.
