Goa’s southwest monsoon continues to remain below normal, with rainfall showing a declining trend over the past week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast no weather warning for the State over the next seven days, with only light to moderate rain expected in North and South Goa.
Rainfall between July 10 (8.30 am) and July 11 (8.30 am) measured 4.2 mm, slightly higher than the previous day’s 3.5 mm but well below the 9.1 mm recorded between July 8 and 9 and the 20 mm received between July 7 and 8. The IMD has predicted light rain, mainly during the evening and night, over the next 48 hours. Since the onset of the monsoon, Goa has received 906.3 mm of rainfall against the normal 1,288.3 mm, resulting in a 29.6 per cent deficit.
Among talukas, Sanguem recorded the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours at 11.2 mm, followed by Quepem (10.8 mm) and Valpoi (9.6 mm). Mormugao received 6 mm, while Margao and Dabolim recorded 3.5 mm each. Panaji, Ponda, Mapusa, Canacona and Sankhali reported only light rainfall, ranging between 1.2 mm and 1.8 mm.
