The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast an early arrival of the Southwest Monsoon this year indicating that it could hit Goa in the first couple of days of June.
It is expected to set over Kerala by May 27, nearly five days from the normal date of arrival. The normal trend is that the monsoon takes on an average of 4-5 days to hit Goa after it reaches Kerala.
"The onset of monsoon over Kerala this year is likely to be earlier than normal. Kerala is expected to get the monsoon on May 27 with a model error of plus or minus 4 days," the IMD said.
The normal date for the onset of monsoon over Kerala is June 1 and it usually progresses further north to Goa by June 5.
The IMD, however, has not spelt out any date for the arrival of the monsoon in Goa as yet. In the last 10 years, the time taken for the monsoon to reach Goa from Kerala has varied between one and 12 days.
