The Parents-Teachers Association of Mopa Government Primary School has threatened an indefinite agitation if stones dumped on the school ground are not removed by December 18.
The PTA put forth its ultimatum while staging a sit-in agitation on Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm.
According to PTA members, three co-owners of the land had handed over a piece of land for a playground in 1972 on a verbal contract.
The ground was a rough surface and the locals had levelled it to make it suitable for children.
They added that one co-owner has now dumped stones on the ground, making it difficult for children to play. They pointed out that one student had fractured his hand after accidentally falling upon a stone while playing on the ground.
"If the Mopa panchayat and government authorities are unable to remove the stones, we can do it but if anything untoward takes place the government will be held responsible," warned PTA President Disha Parab.
ZP member Ramesh Sawal said the land was given by landowners of the earlier generation after appreciating the importance of play and recreation.
"But it pains us that the landowners of the newer generation are trying to deprive students their right to play by dumping stones on the playground. The panchayat must act fast to remove these stones," said Sawal.
Former Sarpanch Rupesh Parab said they had approached the panchayat with a memorandum and had requested them to remove the stones within four days. "But since nothing was done, we sat on a sit-in agitation as a mark of protest," said Parab.
