Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, will commemorate the birthday of legendary Konkani singer Lorna with a musical programme at the Pai Tiatrist hall on August 9 from 7 pm followed by felicitation of the singer, known as Goa’s nightingale.

Ravindra Bhavan Chairman Prashant Naik said that the proposed felicitation of Lorna on her birthday will be the beginning of the exercise to confer on her the state

“We are aware that the criteria adopted by the government to honour outstanding artists may not have benefitted many an artist from Goa settled in Mumbai and other parts of the country,” Prashant said

Requests will be made to the Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude and the government to relax the criteria in certain cases so that deserving Goans who have excelled in art and music receive their due recognition, he added.

Addressing the media in the presence of Ravindra Bhavan Vice-chairman Saish Panandikar, executive council members Roussel Miranda and John Miranda, besides Member Secretary Pandarinath Naik, Prashant said Ravindra Bhavan Margao

“This time we have decided to honour Lorna given her huge contribution to music and songs. She will be honoured at the hands of TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai in the presence of Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude on August 9,” he said.

The musical extravaganza will comprise various renowned Goan artists, in addition to performance by Lorna. “Around six budding singers, Dhiti Lotlikar, Somiya Lotlikar, Nika Lotlikar, Victoria D’Costa, Joel Fernandes and Seruly D’Souza will sing Lorna’s famous songs on the occasion,” Prashant added.
