Fishermen from Morjim and Morjicho Ekvott Organisation president Vasant alias Aba Shetgaonkar have demanded the building of a shed to store their fishing boats during the rainy season.
There are about 80 fishing boats in Vitthaldas and Tembawada areas at Morjim beach. The fishermen here face problems to store their fishing boats during rainy season, as they do not have proper place or land along the coast. During high tide, water reaches the coast where fishing boats are kept.
Speaking to The Goan, Krishna Malvankar said for last 10 years they have been demanding for a shed, but nothing has been done so far.
In the gram sabha in May, a resolution was passed to built a shed to facilitate the fishermen in Morjim.
When contacted, Morjim Sarpanch Seema Sangle said the resolution has been forwarded for appropriate action.
Morjicho Ekvott Organisation leader Vasant alias Aba Shetgaonkar said two years ago, they had submitted a memorandum to the Fisheries department demanding a shed for fishing boats. “But no action has been initiated till now,” added Shetgaonkar.
