Mormugao: All 9 BJP-backed candidates file nominations

With the new notification of the State Election Commission allowed filing of nomination for Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) elections till Saturday, all nine BJP-backed councillors from Mormugao constituency filed their nominations on Friday.

All nine candidates later met a strong crowd of supporters present outside the Dy Collector’s office and were confident that asserted that the BJP would sweep the civic elections from Mormugao constituency, which comprises nine wards of Vasco town.

There are five new faces and four outgoing councillors in the nine-member BJP panel from Mormugao constituency.

The four outgoing councillors are Leo Rodrigues (Ward 9), Murari Bandekar (Ward 8), Damodar Kaskar (Ward 4) and Sashikant Parab (Ward 3), while the new faces are Vrundavan Tirodkar (Ward 1), Dayanand Naik (Ward 2), Damodar Naik (Ward 5), Prajay Mayekar (Ward 6) and Ramchandra Kamat (Ward 7).

Later speaking to reporters, BJP Mormugao Mandal President Sanjay Satardekar said the BJP-backed panel included new faces who were educated and had worked hard through their social work.

"We have already filed nine nominations from Mormugao constituency under the leadership of Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and all these candidates have the capacity to definitely win with a huge margin.’

“The BJP has been working for the welfare of Mormugao constituency and we will continue to do so. We are confident that all our candidates will win in the civic polls," said Satardekar.
