The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad conducted inspections at Headland Sada to check for violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act 2003 (COTPA).
The Enforcement Squad booked cases for violation of Section 4 and 6 (a) and recovered fines of Rs 2,200 mainly from kiosks and bars and restaurants.
The Squad, which was led by Joint Mamlatdar II Krishna S Gauns and GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins, were accompanied by office staff Kundan Gadekar Awal Karkun, Hanumant Mandrekar Talathi Vasco, police personnel Gaurish Mardolkar & Hemant Lamani of Mormugao Police Station, Dayanand Thakkar Sanitary Inspector and Lorna Fernandes Secretary GOACAN.
The Squad found the violation of Section 4 of COTPA in Bars which have licences from the Excise Department and Restaurants, and the Directorate of Food & Drug Administration and the same will be reported to the South Goa District Collector.
The Squad also found in many other establishments during the inspection that the No Smoking signage was not displayed as required under COTPA.
To ensure the compliance of Section 4 of COTPA in Bars and Restaurants, the Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad will recommend to the South Goa District Collector that compliance reports be filed by officials of the Departments of Food & Drug Administration and Excise when the licences & NOC's are being renewed for the financial year 2020-21.
