Chief Minister Pramod Sawant revealed that the Covid-19 facility at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim is presently at 100 per cent occupancy while the three Covid hospitals in South Goa are at 80 per cent occupancy. On the other hand, the Covid Care Centres (CCCs) across the state are running 50 per cent vacant.
“There are 756 beds in hospitals and no one wants to stay in CCCs. 250 beds in GMC are fully occupied. There are 210 beds at ESI, 140 at Sub-District Hospital in Ponda and 150 at South Goa District Hospital in Margao. Hospitals in the South are at 80 per cent occupancy. Everyone wants to get admitted at GMC,” CM Sawant exclaimed.
He urged Covid-19 patients to get admitted as per the directions of the doctors in order to ensure that at least 15 to 20 beds at GMC are vacant at all times to cater to emergency cases.
“Covid Care Centres are approximately 50 per cent vacant. 3,416 patients have opted for home isolation. With the distribution of this kit, it will reduce the load on hospitals,” CM Sawant stated.
Prior to the launch, the Health Minister and CM Sawant chaired a meeting of the Covid-19 Expert Committee Meeting which was attended by Goa’s new Health Secretary Amit Satija.
Offering an insight into the discussions held at the meeting, the Health Minister stated, “During the meeting we discussed certain health and treatment protocols, digitizing health records has brought a paradigm shift in patient monitoring. It has helped us in early intervention and preventing the possibility of a cytokine storm.” Goa Electronics Ltd has been roped in to digitize the records of all home isolating Covid-19 patients.
He further said that the health officers of the Directorate of Health Services are closely monitoring all home isolating patients. “2,500 calls are being made daily to gather patients’ records and health data."
