With a new contractor and the deployment of technology, the Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) has been making significant progress in eliminating roadside garbage disposal.

Previously, the municipality was plagued by numerous dark spots where garbage would accumulate, leading to frequent complaints from citizens. However, this situation has improved since the council hired a new garbage disposal contractor.

“The new contractor has successfully cleaned most of the dark spots in the municipality, freeing the areas from roadside garbage. The contractor has sufficient manpower to conduct daily door-to-door garbage collection,” said CCMC Chairperson Prasanna Bhende.

“Additionally, a new chip system is being implemented. Garbage collectors are wearing these chips, which track the households and residential complexes they visit each day. This technology will allow the contractor’s main office to easily identify any households that were missed.”

To accommodate early office-goers, the council has designated two locations within its jurisdiction where dustbins will be placed during the day. The garbage collected at these designated spots will be cleared daily, Bhende added.
