Fatorda police have arrested a 30-year-old woman on charges of abandoning her one-and-a-half-month-old baby girl in Borda, Margao. The accused, originally hailing from Chandgad, Maharashtra, currently resides in Margao.
The infant was found wrapped in a plastic bag, abandoned behind a building the family was residing in. Authorities arrived at the scene and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.
During the inquiry, police encountered the accused, who reportedly confessed to abandoning her newborn daughter. A senior police official revealed that the infant was born prematurely and suffered from health complications, which allegedly motivated the accused to take such actions.
Fatorda police further revealed that inconsistencies arose during the questioning of family members, initially hindering progress. After a thorough investigation, the baby's mother eventually confessed to the crime, leading to her immediate detention by authorities.
The infant, meanwhile, is receiving medical attention at the South Goa District Hospital in Margao.
