Mother-daughter duo booked for abusing Vishwajit

The mother-daughter duo, who were involved in a verbal duel with Health Minister Vishwajit Rane over a tiff with the Hospicio security personnel after they were denied entry into the hospital, have now been charged by the Margao police for a host of offences, including offense under section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.

The Margao police have registered a FIR against 70-year-old Maria De Cruz and her daughter Auta Godinho following a complaint lodged by the Health Minister, PSO Sharad Chopdekar. Acting Margao police station in-charge, PI Philomena Costa told the media that the mother-daughter duo has been charged under sections 353, 341, 352, 504, 186 read with section 34 of the IPC. PI Costa further said the duo has been booked under section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to the National Honour Act, 1971. 
“I am investigating the case and further necessary action will be initiated against the duo as per the provisions of law,” he said.
In his complaint, the PSO alleged that the duo threatened and warned the police personnel, who were near the car, and even went to assault the police men and the security guard of the Hospicio and allegedly kicked and banged the Minister’s car.
PSO Chopdekar further alleged that he stopped the duo from further advancing towards the Health Minister, further stating in his complaint that the hospital security guards and policemen assisted him to give safe passage to the Minister to sit in his 
official car.  
When asked why the police have invoked the provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, PI Costa said the PSO has alleged in his complaint that the daughter of the woman allegedly tried to damage the National Flag and the pole which was mounted on the front portion of the 
official car.
