MoU inked on creating fire
safety awareness in schools

In an effort to create awareness on fire safety in schools, the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Directorate of Education and Public Safety Mission, Underwriter Laboratories (India) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which was inked in the presence of Chief Secretary R K Srivastava on Monday at the Secretariat in Porvorim.
As part of raising fire safety awareness in primary schools, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had recently unveiled the 'Safer School Safer India' programme, which envisages safety education on fire incidents for primary school children.
The approach is to include fire safety education as part of the school curriculum, with one period a week dedicated for this purpose. The training module is designed to create interest in children at primary level and involve them in activities which will lead to fire prevention and fire safety learning.
In phase I, 46 primary school teachers from 27 schools of Tiswadi taluka were taken up for the 'Training the Trainers' programme.
