MP vows to prepare 'people's manifesto' for 2027 elections

MP vows to prepare 'people's manifesto' for 2027 elections
South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes finally assumes charge as Chairperson of the Party manifesto committee.

MARGAO

In an interesting development, South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes has finally taken over the responsibility as the Chairperson of the Congress election manifesto committee.

After presiding over a meeting held at South Goa District Congress office, Margao to discuss the Congress party manifesto for the Goa Assembly elections, the South Goa MP said he would interact with the people of Goa to prepare a “people’s manifesto” for the 2027 Assembly election.

This is the first meeting the Congress Chairperson of the manifesto committee has chaired since the time the Party High Command had appointed him to head the panel.

After many an eyebrow was raised in party circles over the delay by the MP to take charge of the post, Viriato had promised during the visit of Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge that he would go to every nook and corner of the state to seek feedback and inputs from the people before preparing the draft manifesto.

During the party manifesto meeting, which was also attended by Senior Working President M K Shaikh, South Goa district President Assiz Noronha, Kushavati district President  Rajesh Verenkar, General Secretaries, GPYC President Archit Naik, Block Presidents of both the districts, Mahila leaders and others, the South Goa MP made it very clear the manifesto will be prepared after inputs from the ground.

“I am aware of the issues facing the people of Goa. The manifesto will be prepared after close interaction with the people from the villages and towns and not from the party office”, he said.

He added; “Be it the taxi operators, fishermen, tourism stakeholders et al, we will hold interactions with all of them before preparing the draft. My attempt would be to ensure that a people’s manifesto is prepared by the party for the 2027 Assembly election”.
