The Mormugao Port Trust has clarified that no communication is received by them notifying about 53 km of Goa Coastline under MPT.
MPT has provided the clarification as there was a lot of buzz on various media platforms over handing of 53 km of Goa coastline to MPT.
MPT has further informed that: “The port was developed during the Portuguese period by West of India Portuguese Guaranteed Railway Company which had developed the Port and constructed the railway lines from Mormugao to Collem. MPT was declared a Major Port by the Central government under the provisions of the Indian Ports Act, 1908 on December 2, 1963, and the provisions of Major Port Trust Act, 1963 were applicable with effect from July 1, 1964”.
It further maintains that the jurisdiction of the Mormugao Port Trust is being notified by the Central Government.
