Due to the incomplete repair work at Vhodlem Bhat-Mandur, muddy and waterlogged road is greeting the locals even as rains lashed the State.
Highlighting the same, AAP leader Ramrao Wagh informed that the road was dug for laying underground power cables.
“However, the repair work should have been taken up before the onset of rains which was not done even though there was a delay in the monsoon,” Wagh stated.
When pointed out that St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar informed that there was undue delay in approving the road repair work, Wagh said that politics should not take centre stage when it comes to public works.
Meanwhile, MLA Borkar along with Mandur sarpanch Prashant Naik, Power AE Prabhu and others, conducted an inspection of the area to take stock of the situation. The MLA then directed the contractor to take up the work of repairs on an urgent basis.
Later, speaking to The Goan, Borkar confirmed that the work was unduly delayed by the PWD due to which the road repair work could not be taken up before rains.
“Now that the rains have arrived, there is no possibility of tarring the damaged portions of the road. Only, the soling work can be taken up now,” Borkar stated.
Mandur sarpanch Naik appealed to the public to put up with the hardship for the moment.
“All I can ask the public now is to put up with the hardship as it was of utmost importance to lay underground power cables to resolve the issue of power failures,” Naik opined.
Later, the MLA, sarpanch, AE, contractor and others also visited the main road at Azossim where the road debris has been dumped into the drain thereby increasing the possibility of water logging along the stretch of the road.
Here, MLA Borkar issued directions that the debris should be removed so that water logging does not occur.
