Mungul locals do not want SGPDA wholesale fish market: GFP

MARGAO
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has mulled shifting of the wholesale fish market from Madel, saying the land in question can be utilized to set up an IT hub to provide employment to the youth of Fatorda constituency.

Speaking to the media after launching the hot-mixing works amounting to Rs 2.30 crore, which will cover the internal roads in the Mungul-Madel ward, Sardesai said the people of the ward are fed up with the stink from the wholesale market and feel it should be shifted elsewhere.

The Fatorda MLA said that in the event the Goa Forward forms the next government in 2022, a decision will be taken to shift the market to the nearest jetty at Betul. “People of Madel are tired of the stink and the constant allegations of corruption and extortion,” he said.

“During door-to-door campaigning for the ensuing Margao Municipal Council polls, locals have said the market has not benefited them and it was better to shift it,” he added.

This is not the first time that the Fatorda MLA has come out strongly in favour of the shifting of the wholesale fish market. He had made this demand at the height of the formalin in fish issue.
