With municipal elections around the corner, three long-pending works amounting to Rs 8 crore have been sanctioned and will be taken up shortly in Mapusa.
Works to improve and hot mix various internal roads in Mapusa and construction of an administrative building have been tendered recently while preliminary work on the new bus-stand is expected to be tendered within this week.
The Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has recently invited online tenders for improvement and hot mixing of internal roads in all 20 wards of Mapusa at an estimated cost of little over Rs 1.75 crore.
Similarly, the chief officer has also invited bids for the construction of the administrative building of the council at an estimated cost of Rs 2.67 crore.
The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) will be floating a tender for miscellaneous works on the construction of the new bus-stand on January 15. The estimated cost of the work is expected to be around Rs 3.5 crore.
The construction of the administrative block of the Mapusa Municipal Council is being tendered for the third time.
As per approved plans, the new administrative block of the council will come up behind the existing Mapusa municipal council building.
The proposed three-storied building will have a parking facility in the basement while the first floor will be reserved for commercial activity including shops and offices.
A hall has been proposed on the second floor which will be used to organise council meetings.
The hotmixing and asphalting of various internal roads in Mapusa was expected to be taken up before the monsoons but got delayed due to the Covid crisis.
The decks have finally been cleared and most internal roads will get a fresh coat of hot-mix by next month.
GSIDC General Manager Jude Carvalho informed that the tender for the construction of works on the new bus-stand will be floated on January 15.
Incidentally, the GSIDC had invited bids for the construction of assorted works at the new bus-stand site at an estimated cost of Rs 2.96 crore in February last year. The tender had to be called off because of the pandemic.
Although the total area of the new bus-stand is around 20,000 sq metres, GSIDC will take up work on an area of around 10,000 sq metres.
The miscellaneous works entail the installation of pavers, construction of bus shed and toilets, drainage and fencing of the entire area.
Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza informed that he was working on getting all these works done irrespective of the election for the last 6-8 months.
“I have been after the new bus-stand project ever since I was elected. On roads, I was working before the pandemic. All these works would have been completed good six to seven months back if there was no pandemic,” D’Souza said.
