MARGAO
The Goa Municipal Employees Association has thanked the government for conceding their demand for a wage hike for the daily wage workers employed in the municipal bodies across the state.
The association, however, reiterated its stand that the government must take steps at the earliest to regularize the hundreds of daily wage workers of the civic bodies.
Addressing the media, association president Keshav Prabhu and general secretary Anil Shirodkar said the government has conceded the demand of the association for a hike in the daily wage for the daily wage workers.
Prabhu said the government has increased the wage of the daily wage workers employed on solid waste management from Rs 500 per day to Rs 700 a day. Besides, he said the government has extended to these workers and drivers the group insurance scheme.
Prabhu pointed out that though the circular issued by the Director Urban Development Gurudas Pilarnekar states that the daily wage workers and drivers involved in solid waste management would get the benefit, the association has got an assurance from the government that the hike in wages would be extended to all the daily wage workers.
