Museum Week begins in city

PANAJI: The Goa State Museum launched its annual Museum Week on Monday with Museums Minister Alina Saldanha inaugurating the week that comprises of lectures and competitions for children.

The topic chosen for this year’s museum week is 'Goan Weddings.' Speaking to media persons, museum director Radha Bhave pointed to the need to highlight traditions of Goan wedding and the need to preserve them for posterity.

“Today, weddings have moved to cities and the old traditions are slowly dying. This is why we thought it best to highlight these age-old traditions. The idea is to document these traditions for future generations,” said Bhave adding that students should know rituals and the reasons they were done.

Saldanha inaugurated the photo exhibition comprising traditions from the Catholic, Hindu and Muslim traditions. The aim explained Bhave was also to get more information that may have been left out in the photo exhibition “that will be worked on for the next three months.”

The week will also include lectures and film shows at the Patto museum and will culminate in a painting competition on Saturday.
