MAPUSA
The All India BJP Minority Morcha Vice President Janab Layaq Ali on Tuesday said the Muslim community in Goa will support the BJP in the 2022 assembly polls as the opposition has done precious little for the upliftment of the minorities in the State.
“The Muslims are looking towards the BJP as the Congress has done hardly anything for the community all over India. The Muslim community needs a change and they will side the BJP in the forthcoming elections,” Ali said.
The All India BJP Minority Morcha Vice President was speaking to journalists at the sidelines of a function to celebrate the birth anniversary of Padma Bushan Sikander Bakat Saheb at the North Goa district office, Mapusa.
State BJP minority cell spokesperson Urfan Mullah, All India Haj committee president Shaikh Jina, Mapusa minority cell women committee General secretary Sheikh Firoza and others were also present.
Ali said only winnable candidates, if any, from among the minority cell will be allotted party tickets in the polls.
“Goa is a small State with just about 2 lakh Muslims. The community will come together to support the BJP in the 2022 assembly elections,” he said.
State BJP minority cell spokesperson Urfan Mullah said the opposition parties neglected the minorities in the State while the BJP government under the leadership of CM Pramod Sawant worked for the improvement of the lives of the minorities in the State.
“The MLAs belonging to the opposition parties only took advantage of the minorities and used them to win elections. After getting elected, they sidelined the minorities and worked for personal upliftment,” Mullah said.
