Crew on an Indian Naval Ship (INS) Aditya came to the rescue of a fisherman off the Goa coast who was injured and suffered multiple fractures while on a fishing sortie on the FV Mahonnathan boat.
A statement issued by the Defence PRO, Mumbai, said medical assistance was provided to the fisherman after INS Aditya intercepted a distress call from the fishing boat.
The medical assistance was provided mid-sea about 75 nautical miles West of Goa, the Defence PRO said.
Besides multiple fractures, the fisherman had suffered crush injuries on the fingers of his right hand, the statement said, adding that first-aid was provided in the fishing boat itself to stop the bleeding. He was then taken onboard and administered further treatment.
After he stabilised, the fisherman was transferred back to his fishing boat, the statement said.
