A joint meeting of Mormugao Deputy Collector, Vasco police, Navy officials along with fishermen community was held on Friday at Vasco to resolve the issue of the fishermen who have been annually celebrating Tulsi Vivah and Mass feast on the Grande island which is in the possession of the Indian Navy and located in the Arabian Sea near Baina.
As per information received from Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar, Indian Navy officials have agreed to grant special permission for the annual tulsi vivah and Mass celebrated by fisherman at Grande Island.
Local fishermen had alleged Navy were interrupting their annual celebration for the last two years.
"The Navy will issue special permission to fishermen to celebrate their functions at Grande Island and the Navy has requested that the details and names of fishermen to be provided to them well in advance before the celebration." Added Arondekar.
As per Information recieved from sources around 200 fishermen gather for the Tulsi Vivah at the Grande Island while around 500 fishermen are present during the Mass offered at the Grande Island to offer prayers for good business every year and this tradition has been going since many years.
This year Tulsi Vivah will be held on November 3 and the Mass for the Holy Cross at Grande Island by the fishermen Community is scheduled on November 12.
