Blaming the wrong policies of the BJP-led government for the rise in onion prices, the NCP on Friday said the government should stop fooling the people and work towards bringing down the price of common man’s staple food.
“It’s a pre-plan of the BJP government. The prices have been increased to help the agents who are close to the ruling dispensation,” Barde said and demanded that the onion prices should be brought down to Rs 20 a kilo.
The NCP general secretary along with members of the party was addressing a news conference in Mapusa.
Speaking further, Barde said just like the decision taken to sell onions at a discounted rate in ration shops, the BJP government should also sell some other daily items at ration shops.
“The government should also sell petrol to motorcycle pilots who have been suffering due to the pandemic at a discounted rate in ration shops,” he said.
He also lashed out at the State government for the increase in crimes.
“The ghastly murder of the RTI activist in Porvorim and the rape of a woman by forcing into the house in the dead of the night in Assagao clearly show that there is a collapse of law and order in the State,” he said.
Barde said that NCP had filed complaints against the chief minister and the RSS for breaking the pandemic related SOPs in various police stations but the police have failed to act on them.
He said cases were filed against the CM at the Vasco, Porvorim and Mapusa police stations after the CM attended functions with a gathering despite Section 144 being in force.
He further said that the Mapusa unit of the RSS also violated Section 144 order when they felicitated police personnel of Mapusa Police Station during the pandemic.
“We demand that the police file FIRs in all these cases,” he said.
