OLD GOA
Santa Cruz MLA Antonio Fernandes has appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to set up a kayaking and canoeing training centre inside the sluice gate area near Four Pillars at Santa Cruz.
Fernandes said the proposed site is ideal to set up a training centre since it’s as per the existing rules to organise competitions in kayaking and canoeing in an area with flat surface water with a length of almost 1 km and can be used for hosting kayaking and canoeing events for the forthcoming National Games.
The legislator pointed out that there was little logic in setting up of the kayaking and canoeing centre without forming an association because if the association is not formed, Goan youth will not get grace marks as well as not be able to participate in national/international events.
Besides, he said efforts are on for beautification and to make a boat ride centre at Bondir, to attract domestic tourist with the support of Goa Tourism and to provide employment to locals, especially youth of St Cruz.
He also requested the Chief Minister that necessary directions are given to the Sports minister to depute an SAG official to inspect and finalise the training centre at the earliest.
