With a fresh spike of close to 400 new cases in the last 24 hours, Salcete is the grip of an explosive situation with the total Covid cases detected at 4039 on Wednesday.
While the Margao Urban Health Centre tops the list of health centres with highest number of Covid cases reported, 1828 cases to be precise, almost all the primary health centres have over 300 active cases as on Wednesday. The Cansaulim Primary Health centre, which has jurisdiction over Salcete coastal belt right up to Majorda, Betalbatim, Colva and Benaulim, reported 694 active cases.
Chinchinim PHC has also witnessed a spurt in cases, with close to 50 asymptomatic cases under home isolation. The number of active cases in the jurisdiction of Chinchinim PHC stands at 241.
Expressing concern over the rising Covid cases, the Chinchinim village panchayat had made a fervent plea to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to either seal the state borders or impose a lockdown to break the virus chain.
According to health bulletin issued, cases are rising at every PHC in the taluka, with Margao Urban Health Centre becoming the epicenter of the second wave of Coronavirus.
ESI hospital nearly full
MARGAO: Around 172 patients were admitted to the 190-bedded ESI hospital, Margao late Wednesday.
A couple of patients were spotted at the hospital casualty, with doctors anticipating the hospital to be full if some patients in the casualty need to be admitted.

“There have been a couple of discharge of patients on Wednesday. But, the hospital is now treating 172 patients. Only 18 beds are lying vacant and they are expected to be filled up later tonight (Wednesday)”, informed a health official.
