Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the delay in achieving Goa’s liberation 14 years after India’s independence was unfortunate and it was necessary to ascertain those responsible for this delay.
He was addressing a gathering at the launch of two books ‘Bhui Mhanji Bhangrachi’ and ‘Homkhand’ by Dr Prakash Vazrikar at Khedekar Hall in Sakhali.
“India became independent on August 15, 1947, but it took 14 years for the independence of Goa and many people had to make sacrifices to liberate Goa. Therefore, it is necessary to find out who was responsible for the delay in the liberation of Goa. Many people lost their lives on account of this delay,” said Sawant, while paying tributes to Bala Raya Mapari and others who had sacrificed their lives for Goa’s liberation.
The chief minister admitted that the government had been unable to provide financial assistance to the Konkani Academy, Marathi Academy and other institutions in the last two years due to the Covid pandemic, but added that support would now be provided to these institutions.
