Fast track court needed to take land grab cases to logical end: TMC

PANAJI

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders in the State have demanded a time-bound inquiry by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a fast track court to take the land grab cases to their logical end.
TMC leader Trajano D'Mello said the State government’s decision to appoint an SIT to probe the land scam was merely an eyewash as the mandate to the SIT is not yet given.
“The government must ensure that the investigation is time-bound to do justice to those duped off of their land,” said D'Mello.
"On June 15, the government constituted an SIT through an order which states that terms of reference will be issued separately. This in itself shows how confused the government is.”
D’Mello claimed the government is fooling the people, adding that fraud-related arrests are nothing but a smokescreen.
"Where is the document containing the terms of reference for the SIT? Is the SIT constituted under the Commission of Inquiry Act? Will the SIT be merely recommending authority or will it have investigation powers? Does the SIT have authority to register FIR and file charge sheets in the Court of Law,” were some of the questions raised by D'Mello.
