With the government asserting that the new ‘National Education Policy 2020’ will be implemented from the next academic year from June, a new exclusive
legislation to regulate pre-primary education is in the offing.
“Government will bring an exclusive bill to regulate the pre-primary education considering the mushrooming of this unregulated business in private sector,” Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, adding that a strong statutory system was imperative to manage it.
He said, the Education Department has begun streamlining registration of all pre-primary and primary schools since December last year and an online portal is being developed for it.
Sawant, who also holds the education portfolio had told the Goa legislative assembly during the recently concluded winter session, that the NEP-2020 implementation will begin from the academic year beginning in June.
He brushed aside the objection from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Benaulim MLA, Venzy Viegas, to introducing NEP this year as the necessary infrastructure, including drawing up the State Curriculum Framework had not been completed.
Sawant had said that the registration of all pre-primary schools had begun and nearly 1000 of them had already registered. He also said, that guidelines and circulars will be issued shortly to them.
