Goa Dairy received a boost in sales by a significant 10 per cent when schools reopened on June 5. And with the local milk production on the rise, Goa Dairy expects a further jump in sales.
Speaking to The Goan, Goa Dairy Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant said the sale of milk increased by 10 per cent after schools reopened on Monday. “This is a common trend we witness when the schools reopen for the new academic year. It helps boost our sales ratio,” he said.
Dr Sawant added that efforts are on to increase the local milk production.
Speaking to The Goan, newly-appointed chairman Madhav Sahakari confirmed that the sales had increased. “Presently, we are procuring 70,000 litres of milk per day from local farmers and 15,000 to 20,000 litres from neighbouring states,” Sahakari said.
During his victory and at the time of his election as chairman, Sahakari had said his aim was to increase local milk production to 1 lakh litres per day. “In future, we will achieve this goal as our team is working hard in this direction,” he said.
Sources informed that though this is a ‘lean’ season, Goa Dairy has received an additional 5,000 litres milk per day as compared to last year.
“The flush season will start from August to March. This period helps Goa Dairy to procure more milk from local farmers,” said the source.
Earlier during the lean season, Goa Dairy used to procure more milk from neighbouring states to meet the market share, but this time as local milk has increased by about 5,000 litres, it has decreased procurement from neighbouring states.
According to the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Goa Dairy procured 19 lakh litres of milk from local farmers and 4 lakh litres of milk from outside the state during April.
The milk requirement of Goa is about 3.50 lakh litres per day. If local milk production increases, then Goa Dairy would have a share of about 30 per cent in the market, which has many other brands.
