The new Canacona Municipal Council Chief Officer Raju R Desai has sought time to study and undertake various pending and upcoming development works, while also assuring corrective measures for effective functioning of the civic body.
Speaking to the Canacona Patrakar Sangh, Desai said: "Having taken over as CMC chief officer on November 20 after serving as deputy collector of Canacona, I may need little more time to understand various pending works and the ones to be taken up in new areas."
"As of now, I am unfamiliar with some places that are mentioned to me. There are few issues that need my immediate attention and I look forward to resolve these soon," said Desai.
Asked to specify the issues, Desai replied: "Toilet for fisherwomen, construction of new municipal market, rehabilitation of displaced movable kiosks, as pointed out by you and many more will also be addressed shortly. I need time to study and take permissible actions."
About 70 movable kiosks have applied for renewal of their licences to operate, but CMC is yet to allot them a suitable place, after most of them were displaced from NH17 near the KTC bus stand.
To another query if he was being pressurized by any councillor, Dessai said: "Yes, some do come and expect me to obey, but I explain to them politely and diligently the shortcomings in the files that need completion."
"It will be my priority to provide best of services to the people as chief officer. I have also conveyed to the staff not to keep anything pending. I have directed them to provide in writing or make phone calls to inform applicants on the discrepancies while processing files. Simply keeping the files pending gives wrong impression and raises doubts whether staff or officers are waiting for gratifications," Desai added.
