Cansaulim Sarpanch Jose Maria Furtado has expressed displeasure that the newly built Cansaulim Primary Health Centre (PHC) is yet to be open to public despite the grim Covid situation, shortage of beds and other difficulties being faced by people.
Speaking to reporters, Furtado said the newly Cansaulim PHC is ready and should have been opened immediately, at a time when Covid patients are struggling for beds and other facilities.
“At our present Cansaulim PHC, I have seen a huge rush of people for vaccination and for tests. Both these crowds mix and make things worse. The PHC also has stopped the OPD and people are in trouble. People need a hospital and it is sad that the newly built hospital is ready but not opened as yet at a time when people need it the most,” said Furtado.
The sarpanch suggested utilisation of the Cansaulim stadium complex for Covid relief facilities.
“The Cansaulim stadium complex has a huge hall which can be used as a mini-hospital and many shops can be used for vaccination,” he added.
Dy Sarpanch Ratnadeep Naik appealed to people who had recovered from Covid to hand over the oximeters and other items from the health kit back to the PHC.
"A lot of people were given the health kit after testing positive and the health kit consisted of an oximeter, thermometer and medications. I appeal to people who have recovered to return this kit to the PHC because there is a huge shortage of oximeters and these oximeters which are returned to the PHC can be offer to other patients who need them urgently,” said Naik.
