Stating that the new Chicalim sub-district hospital has been getting up to 400 patients each day, health officer Dr Rajendra Borkar has said that the new facilities are being made available to people of the entire Mormugao taluka.
Admitting there had been some issues at the newly inaugurated SDH in the initial stages due to a shortage of staff and machinery, Dr Borkar said these issues were a thing of the past now. “The hospital has been receiving a great response from people in and around Mormugao taluka and there has been a huge rise in OPD cases. At present, doctors in almost all department are available for consultation at the SDH. A cardiologist, geriatrics surgeon, ENT surgeon, three ophthalmic surgeons, homeopathic and ayurvedic doctors have also joined the SDH.”
“Every alternate day, we have dentists visiting the SDH and a gynaecologist is available on regular basis. We now also have a functional laboratory in place. We have also got a paediatrician who visits on alternate days,” said Dr Borkar.
“We see an average of 300 patients a day but in the monsoons, it goes up to around 400 patients a day. We have now been also treating several cases of road accidents and our casualty caters to almost 100 patients a day. The government has given great facilities and most of the equipments has been made available for use at SDH. Some facilities are being upgraded and are in the pipeline, but I am sure that this hospital which will soon satisfy all the needs of people from across the Mormugao taluka,” said Dr Borkar.
