New PI begins probe into Colva pathway dispute

MARGAO

A day after the uproar, calm returned to Colva village as the newly appointed Colva police station in-charge, PI Diego Gracias, met both the fisherman and the Delhi-based builders over the dispute related to the pathway.

Gracias assumed charge on directions of senior officers and is also holding additional charge of the Cuncolim police station. He met fisherman Antonio Rodrigues at the Colva police station. Police said he is likely to meet the builders at Cuncolim to understand the facts from their side. Antonio explained last week’s incident and demanded that an FIR be registered against the builder. Police sources said the matter remains under inquiry.

South Goa Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai said the situation in the tourist village is peaceful. He added that former Colva in-charge PI Vikram Naik, who is under scrutiny over his presence at Colva Church, has reported to the South Goa district headquarters. Desai said Gracias has taken charge and started examining the access dispute between the fisherman’s family and the builders.
