w toilet block, close to the vegetable market, stands completed in all respects for over a month now, the PDA has been found wanting in commissioning the project for reasons best known to the body.
The toilet block has come in handy for the contractor’s workers to use it for accommodation, while vendors and citizens alike are forced to answer nature’s call in the open space and market passages for no fault of theirs.
When The Goan team visited the PDA complex, it not only came across the contractor’s labourers using the toilet as accommodation, but have started using the block to answer nature’s call.
Inquiries further revealed that though work on the toilet stands completed, the SGPDA is apparently waiting for a VIP to inaugurate the block over the last one month. The contractor maintained that since the toilet block has not been commissioned, he is using the same to accommodate his labourers.
It is learnt that the toilet block stands in the property of the SGPDA while the same is being constructed by the PWD and Sulabh, sources said.
Vegetable vendors are crying foul over the inordinate delay in commissioning of the toilet block. They pointed out that the existing toilet block is far away from their sheds, adding that they cannot afford to just leave their stalls unmanned in order to answer nature’s call.
They further pointed out that in the absence of the toilet block close to their shed, even citizens answer nature’s call in the open spaces in the market, resulting in unsanitary conditions in the market complex.
The passages in the market have come in handy for the citizens for urination, while vendors said the present situation is a health hazard.
