MARGAO
Hours after he officially took over the reins of the organisation, newly-elected BJP State President Damu Naik descended at the Pimpalkatta, the seat of the presiding deity Lord Dambab on Saturday evening.
After thanksgiving and invoking blessings of Lord Dambab, the newly-elected BJP president profusely thanked Madgavkars behind his rise in the party hierarchy. “The love showered by Madgavkars, both people of Fatorda and Margao have helped me to get this position in the party. Though I have lost elections, the people have seen that my votes have increased in every election,” the former two-time Fatorda MLA told the media.
“I am indebted to the people of Margao and Fatorda. They have been part of my political journey over the last two decades,” he said.
Saying the younger lot in the party should take inspiration behind his election as the BJP State President, Damu said, “I was and I am still an ordinary party worker. I have fixed party banners and I will do it again. Loyalty and hard work counts. There are some in the party leadership who take cognisance of your work and reward you,” he said.
He added: My advice to the party workers is don’t ever think of short-term measures for their success. We have many party leaders who have slogged for the party and have been rewarded. Only loyalty and hard work will get you the reward.”
Saying he would accord priority to strengthen the party organisation and reach out to the workers across the State, Damu said the party would be made strong so that the party retains power by winning 27 seats in the 2027 Assembly election.
President of Madgaon New Market Traders Association Gopal Naik welcomed Damu at the Pimpalkatta and wished him all the best. Ex-Madgaon New Market Traders Association President Vinod Shirodkar has said that Damu Naik has been rewarded by the party for his loyalty, saying Damu is one leader who has neither defected nor switched sides in his political journey spanning over two decades.
