Hearing the petition filed by Suvarnasangeet Vernekar a resident of Siolim who has challenged the construction, the NGT has kept the hearing one week from now, while granting an interim stay in favour of the applicants.
Speaking to The Goan, Adv Ashwin Bhobe representing the applicant confirmed the developments.
Earlier on May 31, the NGT had asked the government to respond even though it noted that “we are satisfied that prima facie case is made out but ex parte order would not be proper at this stage.”
“In the circumstances, we direct GCZMA to conduct spot inspection at the earliest and if found that activity is still in progress without required environmental clearance, take appropriate steps as required by law,” the NGT had said in its order on May 31.
The GCZMA has filed a damning report indicting the Water Resources Department. Earlier the Water Resources Department had received a clearance from the GCZMA for repairs of the bund and construction of a jetty in its meeting held on September 11, 2015.
