Night party organisers along Pernem coast face the music

Police issues notices to organisers for violating time limit from December 25 to 31

Night party organisers along Pernem coast face the music

PERNEM
Christmas and New Year revelries may have ended a few days ago, but organisers are now facing the music for night parties along Pernem coast.
Acting on complaints of Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte, locals and the local Sound Pollution Monitoring Committee, Pernem Police issued notices to organisers of night parties along Pernem coast over allegations they had violated the time limit from December 25 to 31.
When contacted, Pernem Police Inspector Sandesh Chodankar said notices have been issued to org
anisers of night parties in Morjim, Ashvem-Mandrem and Arambol for allegedly violating the time limit during the Christmas week and New Year eve parties.
Sources said when complaints from locals had gone unattended, Sopte filed a complaint with authorities concerned, while also demanding action by the superintendent of police on the drugs and prostitution trade at rave parties in coastal areas of Mandrem constituency.
Acting on Sopte's complaint, a senior police official directed Pernem Police to issue notices to the organisers and record their statements. Pernem Police was also ordered to take in writing from organisers that they would not play music in the open after 10 pm, failing which action would be taken against them.
A local, Sandesh Shetgaonkar, complained that many complaints have been filed against illegal night parties, but police have failed to take action.
"As organisers of these night parties have political backing, police cannot act even if they want to take action. It really matters little if organisers take permission or not, but authorities should take action against those organisers playing loud music beyond the time limit," said Shetgaonkar.
