A delegation led by Cutbona Boat Owners’ Union President Savio D’Silva, and which also included Vijay Tari and Sudharkar, impressed upon Avertano not to take any decision to hand over the Cutbona jetty to the fisheries societies, saying they will oppose it tooth and nail.
The minister told the delegation that the government has not taken any decision either to take over the jetty or hand over the same to the fisheries societies, saying he would take a call only after hearing both sides. “Last Thursday, I had a meeting with the other group of mechanized owners. They have made certain demands, which are under study. Similarly, the delegation of small boat owners met me today with their set of grievances and the government will take a decision concerning the jetty after studying the various issues threadbare,” Avertano later told the media.
Avertano said he had not mentioned that the government has not taken any decision to hand over Cutbona jetty to the fisheries societies. He added, “All I said was the issue was under examination by the government.”
To a demand by the small boat owners that the government should first take up the work on the training wall at the river mouth before starting work on the jetty expansion, Avertano said work on the wall will be taken up first.
