There’s no end to slow but steady exodus of migrants to their native states, especially to the North Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
And, a week after the lockdown in Goa came into force on Sunday, the exodus has only increased with migrants anxiously trying to get to their natives states either by the Goa Express or by the Bihar Express running on Wednesday.
A visit to the Margao railway station on Friday revealed that migrants preferred to leave the State not just because of the 15-day curfew in Goa as well as the lockdown in their natives states.
So far, those working on a daily wage are trying to leave the State, with loss of jobs threatening their very livelihood.
Some of the migrants, who have boarded the Goa Express train on Friday, saying they have preferred to be with their families with no work and they facing the prospects of paying the rent to the land-lords.
They, however, all said they would definitely return back to Goa after the Covid situation returns to normal in the coming months.
Railway officials, however, pointed out that they are yet to come across any major exodus of the migrants from Goa, saying they are closely monitoring the situation.
