In the wake of BRICS summit that is to take place in Goa next month, the Education Department has asked schools and higher secondary schools across talukas of Salcete and Mormugao not to hold exams from October 4 to October 17.
Education Director Gajanan Bhat on Wednesday held a meeting with the heads of institutions of all the schools in these two talukas. Representatives of nearly 80 schools were present at the meeting.
Speaking to The Goan, Bhat said, “As a precautionary measure, we have asked the heads of schools in Mormugao and Salcete taluka not to hold examinations during this period. They can hold the exams post October 17.”
Schools across the State are scheduled to hold their term examinations during this period, while the BRICS summit too will be held on October 15 and 16 in South Goa.
He however clarified that schools would not remain closed during this period.
Schools can however hold examination from October 18 up to October 26 as it is the last working day for schools prior to Diwali vacation.
“However, we have told them to use their discretionary powers in critical situations”, said Bhat.
