MARGAO
Scarcity of fish in the Goan markets? Why not true traditional mouth watery mushrooms that hit the markets this part of the year?
Fish loving Goans may think of consuming locally available mushrooms,
but they soon realise that mushrooms too are beyond the reach of the common man.
Mushrooms hit the commercial capital on Friday noon behind the Margao Municipal building, but many a mushroom eating
Goan, returned back disappointed over the price. In fact, if the local variety of fish, including ‘korbott’ was sold at Rs 500 per vantto, mushrooms also were sold at a premium.
Inquiries by The Goan revealed that a vantto of mushroom was priced at Rs 500 in the market. While those who could afford made a beeline for the mushrooms, others returned home a disappointed lot, unable to afford the huge cost of the Goan
delicacy.
