Countering the Opposition charge of holding the Assembly session during the ‘Holy Week’, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said the Budget session of the Assembly will not be conducted on notified government holidays even as one BJP legislator appealed not to hold a session on Maundy Thursday.
“The Assembly secretariat will draw up the timetable for the 12-day session and all the government holidays will be maintained,” Sawant said.
The chief minister was speaking to the media at the sidelines of the public grievances meeting held at the BJP office in Mapusa. Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza and other BJP karyakartas were also present.
Continuing, Sawant said the Opposition was in the habit of fussing upon each and every issue.
Meanwhile, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo has said the chief minister has assured to look into his request of not holding the Assembly session on Maundy Thursday.
“There’s a hue and cry about holding the session on Maundy Thursday which is a restricted holiday. I spoke to the CM this morning and told him that it’s not proper to have the session on that particular day,” Ticlo said.
He also said that he will take up the issue with the Speaker of the House, Rajesh Patnekar.
The leader of opposition Digambar Kamat had slammed the government for holding the assembly session coinciding with the ‘Holy Week’ “ March 28 to April 4 “ an important event in the Christian calendar.
The Goa Forward Party chief, Vijai Sardesai had also condemned the decision to hold the 12-day assembly session from March 24 to April 12 conflicting with the ‘Holy Week’ of Lent.
On the civic elections, the chief minister informed that the task of selecting candidates was on and the list of candidates will be declared very soon.
“We are confident we will win the election in all the municipalities in the State. We will have a panel in every municipality which will be declared at the earliest,” he said.
Sawant also said that the government was seized with the GoaMiles issue and would find a way out.
“The transport minister is looking into the taxi issue. We will take proper steps and resolve the GoaMiles issue at the earliest,” he said.
More than 100 people had lined up at the BJP office to place their grievances and issues before the chief minister.
The CM was seen giving a patient hearing to the public in presence of BJP workers at the party office.
