The garment vendors were again conspicuous by their absence at the Comunidade Square for the second day today, a day after the MMC ordered clamp down on encroachments after a Bihari native confronted civic chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai on Monday over his
illegal kiosk. Led by market inspector Anil Shirodkar, the raiding team headed towards Ravindra Bhavan and Borda area and confiscated kiosks operating without licenses.
“We have so far confiscated a total of 17 illegal gaddas from the city since Tuesday evening. The drive will continue for the next eight days,” Shirodkar said, while making a plea to the illegal gadda operators to stop the operations immediately or face a crack down. Shirodkar said that it was for the Chief Officer to take a call whether to return the goods seized during the last two days or to auction the same. Meanwhile, garment vendors, whose goods were seized by the raiding team on Tuesday, were spotted in the corridors of the civic body, identifying their goods, raising questions whether the civic body plans to return
these back to them after imposing a fine.
