CANACONA
Madkaikar was speaking after commissioning the 11 KV underground Palolem feeder and two 200KVA distribution transformer centres (DTCs) at Ourem and Patnem coasts, bringing the entire municipal coast area under underground cabling network.
“It is not financially viable to bring the entire State under UPCN for now, but the entire State will witness a significant change by putting to practice the ABC system at a tendered cost of Rs 150 crore, for which work order has been issued,” said Madkaikar.
“This will give momentary solace to those encountering power outages. The ABC system ensures that whole lot of overhead power cables are clubbed together with a single cable pulled overhead or laid underground. “We will soon begin the underground power cabling works in Bardez,” Madkaikar added.
The 11KV Palolem UG feeder has been set up at a cost of Rs 1.82 crore, while the two DTCs have been installed at a cost of Rs 12.48 lakh, converting the overhead lines to underground network system in the entire municipal coast.
Following demands, the minister also assured to provide LED street lights in the entire Canacona taluka, while also taking up underground power cabling of works of 33 KVA from Cuncolim to Canacona Sub-Station.
He also informed that the entire coastal belt will be covered under the UG power-cabling network before the monsoon, thereby reducing frequent power outages to uprooting of trees.
Executive Engineer Santosh Lolienkar informed that the DTCs at Ourem and Patnem had been fully loaded due to peak tourist season.
“With the commissioning of new DTCs, locals facing hardships will be a thing of the past,” he said.
Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes requested the electricity department to complete the conversion of remaining municipal areas to UG cabling.
