According to available information, the flow of water in the Mhadei River has started to decline. The occasional showers have not had a favourable impact.
To make matters worse, the WRD had removed the planks from several bandharas in the taluka as a precaution in anticipation of the monsoons and this was necessitated because two years ago, sudden rains had caused a rise in river flow, leading to flood-like conditions in many places.
However, the removal of the planks from the bandharas has caused water to flow away. The depleted water storage in many places has now prompted officials of the water supply department to request the WRD to reinstall the planks of the bandhara near the Dabos project as this could help improve water storage, allowing water to accumulate around the project’s pumping station and giving the Dabos water project some relief.
The Dabos water project has a capacity of 15 MLD and this project supplies drinking water to nearly 60 per cent of Sattari, making it a vital drinking water project for most parts of the taluka.
