Patients and the staff have to fetch water from home or buy mineral water for consumption and even for bathroom use.
The only patient admitted in the hospital lamented that he has no other alternative but to source water from outside.
“For the last six days, there is not a drop of water in the hospital. My folks bring water from home for my drinking purpose. I have not had a bath for the last five days,” said Bharat Bandodkar, a patient.
Training his gun on the politicians, Bandodkar said ministers and MLAs seek votes during elections but they fail to tackle problems in government institutions.
A relative of the patient termed the situation at the PHC as pathetic saying something needs to be done urgently to restore the water supply.
For the past two days, Aldona village and the surrounding areas have been affected by severe water shortage.
Citing politics over the water crisis in the village, a source disclosed that water has been diverted to Porvorim at the cost of the Aldona village.
Meanwhile, sources at the PHC disclosed that the overhead tank was very weak and could collapse anytime. The source informed that it could not take the risk of filling the tank to full or else it could collapse any time. PHC Medical Officer Dr Manish Gavnekar said the government has been requested to construct a new tank on priority.
The Medical Officer at the Aldona PHC, Dr Manish Gavnekar admitted that there was poor water supply to the PHC for the last five days. However, the problem was mitigated with supply from PWD water tankers, he said.
“PWD was sending tankers to us but we could not pump adequate water to our overhead tank due to some technical problem,” Dr Gavnekar said.
It may be noted that Aldona PHC was renovated at a cost of around Rs 2 crore just three months before the assembly election.
