“It’s nothing like that. I have been in the BJP for the last 18 years. Six more minority MLAs were elected from the party, who won with big margins,” D’Souza said when questioned about the impression that a minority will never be allowed to be CM in BJP.
D’Souza was addressing a news conference while releasing a Mapusa specific manifesto in the party office in Mapusa. Speaking further, he said retaining the post of deputy chief minister in the next government was not important as the post had no constitutional sanction.
“That I am no 2 in the hierarchy is what is more important. Rest does not matter. I am not interested in perks,” he said. “Deputy CM is not a constitutional post. It only gives you importance. And when the CM is not around you get to act as the chief minister of the State,” he added.
Releasing Mapusa specific manifesto, D’Souza said his top priority will be speedy implementation of the ambitious Town Planning Scheme in Down Town Mapusa.
Major projects like Ravindra Bhavan, ‘Bodegeshwar Plaza’ “ comprising government office complex, warehousing, integrated school complex, etc, will be accommodated in the scheme.
“Most of the problems facing Mapusa will be resolved in the Down Town Scheme which will be a win-win situation for everyone,” D’Souza said. State-of-the-art bus stand, multi-level parking facility, shifting of petrol pumps and scrapyards outside the city, permanent solution to traffic congestion, development of Tar river front are other promises of the manifesto.
