A notorious criminal from Margao was arrested in Saundatti, Karnataka and has been brought to the State.
In a press statement, Superintendent of Police (South) A K Gawas said a rape case was reported at Quepem Police Station on November 15, after a woman from Goa was allegedly abducted, taken to Dharwad-Karnataka, confined to a room from May to November and sexually abused by four accused persons.
The four accused, identified as Anwar Shaikh alias Tiger Anwar of Margao, Tulshidas Naik @ Tambi of Curchorem, Raghavendra Devar alias Ratti of Margao and Shivdatt Talwar alias Shiva of St Inez, had also allegedly threatened the woman with dire consequences.
A special team was formed under the leadership of Quepem SDPO Kiran Poduval and consisting of Quepem PI Santosh Dessai, Fatorda PI Kapil Nayak, HC Laxmikant Borkar, PC Sandesh Gadkar (both of Quepem Police Station) and PC Goraknath Gawas of Margao Town Police Station to arrest the gang involved in the crime.
During police investigations, it was learnt that Tiger Anwar is in Dharwad-Karnataka. Acting on this information, a team led by PI Santosh Dessai was deputed to Dharwad on Monday to apprehend the main accused, Tiger Anwar.
In Dharwad, the police team learnt that Tiger Anwar had left for Saundatti, Karnataka.
The team then visited Saundatti and with the assistance of the local police conducted a search of probable hideouts and Tiger Anwar was located in one of his hideouts. A raid was conducted in the wee hours of Tuesday and he was apprehended and brought to Goa.
Apart from the above rape case, Tiger Anwar was wanted in 5 other cases of Colva, Margao, Fatorda and Curchorem in cases like attempt to murder, rioting, criminal intimidation and assault, stated SP Gawas.
“Totally, he is involved in 25 criminal cases of rape, kidnapping, abduction, attempt to murder, dacoity, extortion, robbery, burglary, threat to kill, grievous hurt, rioting, etc.” stated SP Gawas.
“Also, externment proceeding is going on against him before DM South to extern him from South District. Earlier in 2018, he was arrested by Pl Kapil Nayak in an assault case reported at Margao Town Police Station and was released on bail by a court and since then, he was absconding and evading arrest.
In the rape case, Quepem PI Santosh Dessai nabbed accused Shivdatt @ Shiva Talwar from Marcela-Ponda on November 16.
Later on Monday, beat PC Dhananjay Dessai of Canacona Police while patrolling al Canacona Railway Station noticed two other accused, Tulshidas Raju Naik @Tambi and Raghavendra Tangvas Devar @ Ratti waiting to board a train.
PC Dessai immediately passed on this information to Canacona PI Tukaram Chavan who along with his team rushed to Canacona Railway Station and nabbed both the accused and handed them over to Qucpem Police Station.
In this case, all four accused have been arrested and LPSI Varshda Dessai of Quepem Police Station is conducting further investigation.
The IGP Goa Jaspal Singh has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 to the entire team in connection with the arrest of all four accused involved in the rape case.
