Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas will now be discussed at a special meeting of the Council on April 12, at 11 am at the civic body.
What’s, however, interesting to note is that the Director of Urban Development, J Ashok Kumar, IAS has authorised Chief Officer of Mapusa Municipal Council, Gurudas Desai to preside over the special meeting.
This is the third no-confidence motion tabled against the CMC chairperson by the group headed by Municipal Vice-Chairperson Mario Moraes since the Assembly elections results were declared.
Lavita had survived the previous attempts to unseat her by the opposition from office and hopes to win the vote this time too.
The opposition though is confident that this time they will succeed in dislodging her from the chair and pave the way for a new chairperson to lead the council.
